For every five voters, 3 voted for Hichilema, 2 for Mundubile – Brenda
OPPOSITION NRPUP Lundazi Member of Parliament Brenda Nyirenda says the ruling UPND and opposition should work together for the betterment of Zambia.
Nyirenda has also thanked presidential candidate Brian Mundubile for adopting her to contest the Lundazi parliamentary seat on the NRPUP ticket, under the Tonse/Pamodzi Alliance, in the August 2026 polls.
Delivering her maiden speech on the floor of the House yesterday, Nyirenda described Mundubile as a beacon of democracy who deserves to be appreciated.
She said Mundubile contested the presidency for the first time and managed to get over 50 Members of Parliament.
“It’s not an easy achievement. In any case, for those who may not understand the extent of this victory, His Excellency the President [Hakainde Hichilema] got 3 million and Brian got 1.8 million.
“Now let me bring it home. It means that every five voters that you meet, two of them voted for Brian Mundubile and three voted [for Hakainde Hichilema]. That is the ratio that we are dealing with,” she said.
Nyirenda implored members on both sides of the House to work together, stressing the need to promote national unity.
“There’s need for the opposition and the ruling party to work together. There is need for us to ensure that our people are united because behind every voter, there is a family,” she said.
She also congratulated Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti and Vice-President Mutale Nalumango on their re-election.
