FORMER CABINET MINISTER DR JOSEPH KATEMA DIES
The family of former Cabinet Minister Dr Joseph Katema has announced with deep sorrow his passing.
Dr Katema, a medical doctor by profession, died in the early hours of today in India, where he had been receiving medical treatment.
He served as Member of Parliament for Chingola on the Copperbelt and held several Cabinet portfolios under the Patriotic Front administration. During his distinguished public service, he served as Minister of Information, Minister of Community Development, Mother and Child Health, and later as Minister of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs.
Following his Cabinet service, Dr Katema was appointed Zambia’s Ambassador to Italy, continuing his service to the nation in the diplomatic corps. He held these positions during the administrations of President Michael Sata and President Edgar Lungu.
Dr Katema is remembered for his contributions to Zambia’s health sector, public service, and national development.
Rest in peace, Hon. Dr Joseph Katema. Thank you for your service to the nation. May your soul rest in eternal peace.
