Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has revealed what he described as a shocking incident involving his family in Croatia, claiming that his daughter, Abigail, was refused an ice cream because of her Israeli nationality.
According to Bennett, the incident occurred after the shop owner discovered that his daughter was from Israel. Bennett alleged that the man angrily took away the ice cream she had been waiting for, destroyed it, and threw it into the trash.
The former prime minister said the shop owner then allegedly told her that “there is no ice cream for people wearing small hats,” an apparent reference to Jews wearing kippahs, before ordering her to leave the premises.
Bennett described the incident as evidence of what he called a growing level of hatred directed at Israelis and Jewish people. The allegation has triggered widespread discussion on social media, with supporters pointing to what they see as increasing hostility, pressure and social isolation faced by Jewish and Israeli citizens in parts of Europe.
The reported incident comes amid heightened political and social tensions surrounding Israel’s actions and the wider conflict in the Middle East, with debates over antisemitism, anti-Israel sentiment and discrimination continuing to intensify across Europe.
“The world has become increasingly hostile toward the people of the small cap, while some among those who claim to represent our Muslim community are applauding,” one commentator wrote in reaction to the incident.
