FORMER LUSAKA MAYOR WISHES MWEWA SUCCESS, PUTS POLITICS ASIDE.
Former Lusaka Mayor Chilando Chitangala has wished Lusaka Mayor- elect Mwewa Chitambala success in his efforts to keep the city clean and improve its management.
Ms. Chitangala says although she previously had doubts about Mr. Chitambala’s leadership abilities, his actions in his new role have shown that he has the potential to succeed.
She believes Mr. Chitambala could also succeed in moving street vendors from the streets into designated markets because he enjoys strong support from his political party.
Ms. Chitangala previously criticised Mr. Chitambala ahead of the 2026 General Elections, questioning his leadership style and the language he used when addressing members of the public.
“Leadership is not about someone using a loud voice shouting, ‘Iwe-Doba Apo.’ Leadership is more than that. Someone has to plan where the council gets the money,” she said on the Zed Podcast.
Mr. Chitambala later responded to the criticism, saying the council should not be run or managed by “slay queens who are addicted to painting nails.”
However, Ms. Chitangala has now put politics aside and publicly wished Mr. Chitambala success in his new role.
Her latest remarks appear to signal a change in her earlier position, as she now acknowledges that Mr. Chitambala has what it takes to do the job.

Then she is a good woman. Only good people behave that way, she may have mentioned whatever she mentioned before based on what she was going through at that time. Realising that things can still work, she pushes inn her support
Exactly. I’m for Mwewa but kudos to Chitangala. Only good people behave like she’s done. We all want a clean city. One Zambia one Nation.
I agree. People as individuals and people in groups tend to behave differently. There’s a core of decency in Chilando Chitangala which was not visible due to PF politics.
When people talk about maturity, this is what they talk about. The has shown maturity and that that’s what and how it should be.
