FORMER US PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA MOURNS DEATH OF FAMILY DOG SUNNY AFTER 13 YEARS

Former United States President Barack Obama has announced the death of his beloved family dog, Sunny, who has been part of the Obama family for 13 years.

Announcing the death on his Facebook page, Obama said Sunny was a cherished member of the family who brought joy, energy and unconditional love to the White House and beyond.

Describing Sunny’s vibrant character, the former President said she was a force of nature who was athletic and full of boundless energy.

Obama contrasted Sunny’s playful spirit with that of their late first dog, Bo, noting that while Bo was motivated by treats, Sunny was more interested in companionship and play.

He added that Sunny loved his daughters, Malia and Sasha, even when they pestered her during naps, and was fond of the White House staff, often following them around as they worked. She was also fiercely protective of Bo.

Recalling her quirks, Obama said despite being a Portuguese Water Dog, Sunny hated getting wet, preferred people to dogs except Bo, and was a loud and sloppy drinker.

“And for thirteen years, she would be by our side – always loyal, always sweet, always ready for adventure, still fiery and gorgeous till the very end of her days. We will miss her terribly, and imagine she’s with her big brother now, making sure he’s okay.”

Sunny, a Portuguese Water Dog, joined the Obama family in August 2013 during Obama’s second term at the White House. She was preceded by Bo, who died in 2021.
