🇿🇲 BREAKING: Former Vice President Guy Scott dies at 82

Zambia’s former Vice President, Dr. Guy Lindsay Scott, has died at the age of 82 after an illness, the Government has announced.

Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa said Dr. Scott passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at his Trotover Farm in Leopards Hill, Lusaka.

President Hakainde Hichilema has accorded the former Vice President a State Funeral in recognition of what Government described as his distinguished service and contribution to the nation..

Dr. Scott served as Zambia’s Republican Vice President from 2011 to 2014 under the late President Michael Sata. Following President Sata’s death on October 28, 2014, he became Acting President, steering the country through the constitutional transition until January 2015, when Edgar Lungu was elected in the presidential by-election.

His tenure marked a unique chapter in Zambia’s political history. Dr. Scott remains the only White Zambian to have served as Vice President and Acting President since the country attained independence in 1964, making him one of the country’s most distinctive political figures.

Before becoming Vice President, Dr. Scott also served as Minister of Agriculture and held various senior government positions over several decades, earning a reputation as an outspoken politician, agricultural expert and public intellectual.

Government says details of the State Funeral programme will be announced in due course.
