Tayali’s 13-Day U-Turn Raises Questions of Integrity

By: Thelma Mulundika

Former Ndola Central lawmaker Frank Tayali conceded defeat when the election results were announced. Thirteen days later, he turned around and petitioned the same election.

While the law gives every candidate the right to challenge an election, the dramatic U-turn raises a simple question: Where is the integrity and consistency expected of a leader?

You cannot accept the people’s verdict today and reject it 13 days later because the outcome did not go your way.

Leadership demands dignity in defeat, consistency in principle and respect for the voters.

A petition is a constitutional right. But integrity is a leadership responsibility.
