GERMANY LAUNCHES “CITY DOME” TO PROTECT UKRAINIAN CITIES

Germany and several partner countries are launching “City Dome,” a new initiative aimed at strengthening the protection of Ukrainian cities against Russian missile and drone attacks

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced the initiative on September 8, saying the project seeks to establish a comprehensive “protective shield” over Ukrainian cities while significantly improving Ukraine’s air-defense capabilities.

As part of the broader support package, Berlin plans to provide Ukraine with additional drones, long-range ammunition and PAC-2 interceptor missiles for Patriot air-defense systems, with the interceptors being drawn from German Bundeswehr stocks.

Germany will also finance the purchase of tens of thousands of long-range artillery shells, further expanding Ukraine’s ability to defend its territory and strike Russian military targets at extended ranges.

The initiative represents another major step in Europe’s effort to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses as Russian missile and drone attacks continue to target cities and critical infrastructure.

🇩🇪 Berlin says the objective is clear: strengthen Ukraine’s defensive shield and help protect its population from continued Russian aerial attacks.
