“God Will Begin to Defeat the Purpose of Islam in Nigeria” — Pastor Benny Hinn Declares
American evangelist Benny Hinn has drawn criticism following statements he made about Islam in Nigeria and Ghana’s religious identity during a Christian gathering.
In the circulated message, Hinn declared that what he described as “evil powers” operating in Nigeria would begin to break within two years.
“The Lord declares the evil powers in Nigeria will be broken. I see two years before that power begins to shatter in Nigeria,” he said.
He further declared that God would “begin to defeat the purpose of Islam in Nigeria,” prompting a response from members of the audience.
Speaking about Ghana, Hinn described the country as a Christian nation and declared that foreign spiritual forces would never control its government or future.
“You will never have Ghana. You will never have the people of Ghana. You will never have the future of Ghana. It belongs to Jesus and His Kingdom,” he declared while addressing Satan.
However, a Ghanaian commentator strongly criticised the remarks, describing Hinn’s message as extreme, divisive and capable of promoting religious hostility.
The commentator questioned the evangelist’s authority to declare Ghana a Christian nation, arguing that such language may conflict with the country’s constitutional commitment to religious freedom.
He also called on Christian leaders to invite preachers whose messages promote unity rather than deepen religious divisions.
