GOVERNMENT, DO NOT FIGHT THE MIRROR!
On 3rd Nov, Hon. Elvis Nkandu responded to the EU Final Report on the 13th August elections. Muvi TV, Diamond TV and Times of Zambia all reported it. Government said 3 things:
1. EU ignored our history.
2. ZNBC was not biased.
3. EU had no security intelligence.
I have read it. As a pastor, I must answer with respect, but with truth that cannot be refuted.
1. You invited the witness: You cannot reject the testimony. Zambia invited the EU. You signed for them. You accredited 100+ observers. You let them stay 3 months in all 10 provinces.
You cannot call a witness yourself, then say “I don’t trust this witness” when he speaks the truth you don’t like.
2. The EU is not an opinion. It is evidence: The EU has observed 70+ countries for 30 years. It does not guess. It counts, it logs, it photographs.
When it says ZNBC was overwhelmingly biased, it logged the hours. When it says counting stopped for 6 hours on 14th August and transparency collapsed, its observers were inside and saw it.
Government says “opposition could buy adverts.” Buying an advert is not equal news. A poor opposition cannot buy what a rich ruling party gets free every night on national news. That is bias.
If you disagree, the answer is simple, Publish the ZNBC logs. Publish the Form 20s. Truth does not fear light.
3. History is not a defence. It is an indictment: Government says,” Kaunda did it, Chiluba did it, Lungu did it.”
If your predecessors insulted and you insult, does that make you innocent? No. It makes you worse, because you knew it was wrong.
We did not vote for change in 2021 to repeat the past. We voted to correct it. You cannot use the sins of others as a licence for your own.
4. “Security” cannot explain what we all saw: Zambians did not need intelligence to see the ECZ portal go dark, counting stop, homes raided, leaders chased.
You do not need a secret file to explain a public fact. If there was a real threat, show Parliament. Show the courts. Do not ask 20 million people to trust a secret while you ask them to distrust a public report.
5. The world does not revolve around your opinion: This is my counsel, with love. The world does not bend to a press statement.
The EU has given you mercy, not punishment. Recommendations, not sanctions. A chance to act wisely before the world acts for you.
When governments bend truth to protect themselves, it never ends well. Kaunda bent it and fell. Chiluba bent it and fell. Lungu bent it and fell. Do not follow that path.
Do not fight the mirror. Fix the face.
Publish the results. Investigate the raids. Let the courts decide bail on law, not fear. Reform ZNBC. Reform ECZ.

Zambia must never continue to go down this path. Let us turn. Let us choose truth.
I am praying for you, Government, that you will have humility to listen, and courage to correct. Amen.
