GOVERNMENT BITTER THAT WE SOLD OUR LAND HENCE JUDGE MUMA’S ARREST- FORMER PF SG MWILA

Lusaka, Tuesday, 21 February 2023

PF central committee member Davies Mwila says the party opted to sell the land it acquired, allegedly belonging to the Zambia Army because government wanted to grab it.

Police recently charged and arrested Mongu High Court Judge Wilfred Muma for the offence of willful failure to comply with the law or procedure relating to the allocation and disposal of property.

According to police, Judge Muma, who was commissioner of lands at the time of commission of the offence, is alleged to have expired and cancelled the title for a property in Woodlands area belonging to the Zambia Army and later offered it to the Patriotic Front – Registered Trustees.

In an interview, recently, Mwila, who is former PF secretary general, said Judge Muma was innocent, and further accused the government of being bitter because the PF sold the land in question.

“What has hurt them, why they are so bitter, they wanted to grab that land and we sold it. We knew that they will come for that. So we sold it, by the time they were coming, the land had already gone. So they had to go on Judge Muma, we knew about it because these guys are not clever. We knew about it, we knew their intentions and the party decided to sell it. That is why you have seen what they have done to Judge Muma, a very innocent person,” he said.

Asked who the land was sold to, Mwila said he did not have much information about that.

“I don’t know, but it should be private [people], I don’t have much details, the SG has more details,” he said.

Mwila said it was unfortunate that anyone close to former president Edgar Lungu was being harassed.

“Anyone who was close to Edgar Lungu must be harassed. That is the agenda and I have told the Zambian people [that] these guys never came to fix the economy, they came to fix people. Once your agenda is to fix people, this country is not going anywhere. That is why you have seen when it comes to the appointment of judges, he is just appointing his relatives, his friends, just to protect his interests. It is not going to take them anywhere. The Zambian people will rise, and when the people will rise, no judge will stop it, no political leader will stop them,” he said.

“UNIP was very powerful, Kaunda was very powerful, he was untouchable [but] he was removed by the Zambian people. PF was powerful, we were removed, what will stop the Zambian people to remove Hakainde Hichilema, who has brought misery to the Zambian people? It is so easy to remove him’’.

Meanwhile, Mwila advised President Hakainde Hichilema not to be cheated by what he termed as stage-managed crowds, saying even the PF used to do that but still lost the polls.

“People are suffering. I want to tell them that [with] these stage-managed groups of people welcoming him, he will cry in 2026. Because even us we staged-managed people and we lost. So it is a lesson and us we have learnt a lesson, when people are complaining you have to listen to their cry. Failure to listen to their cry, you will see in 2026. That was stage-managed, he goes to CBU, no! Let him go to Chililabombwe where there is a by-election, he will see the reaction. That is when he will know what is prevailing on the ground,” said Mwila.

“He should not be cheated, they should look at their performance in the last by-elections in Nsama, in Kasama as well as in Luapula Constituency. They should look at those performances, they should look at the by-election which was held in Nchanga where they lost. I can tell you that if a ruling party is winning by a difference of 23 votes, come general election you are gone. So [that’s my] advice, you can take it or leave it”.
