Sunday… March 6 2022 (Smart Eagles)

Government has described the death of the mother to emeritus catholic archbishop, Telesphore Mpundu, as a huge loss to the nation.

Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Ms Doreen Mwamba says the death of Ms Margaret Mpundu Changopa has been recieved with a lot of grief and pain.

Ms Mwamba who represented republican President, Mr Haikainde Hichilema during the requiem mass at the cathedral of the Child Jesus yesterday , said government is always saddened when the nation loses a citizen, more so, a senior citizen from whose wisdom and cousel the country benefitted from.

Ms Mwamba who earlier met with the bishop to console him encouraged the family to remain strong and united in love.

“Our mother has sadly died, but we thank God the almighty that her wisdom, love and strong will for family values and her love for the things of God have remained alive in us” she said.

And in his homily, archbishop of Lusaka Alick Banda called on the nation to pray for national, personal and global healing.

He remembred the late, Ms Changopa as being a pillar both to the catholic church and the nation at large.

“Lets us also pray for the inflicted and the poor” archbishop Banda encouraged everyone, saying death should be a reminder of how people should care for each other in their daily lives.

He said God gave, and he has taken, but hope still remains that the dead will resurrect to enjoy everlasting life.
