GOVERNMENT SUSPENDS FUNDING TO CHIPOLOPOLO
GOVERNMENT has suspended financial support to the Football Association of Zambia Senior Men’s National Football Team, following continued poor performances in recent international matches.
The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts and the National Sports Council of Zambia, has sighted the need for accountability and justification for continued public funding amid disappointing results.
In a statement issued on 13th October 2025, the Ministry has expressed concern over the team’s lack of progress despite significant government expenditure on accommodation, air tickets, bonuses, and the coach’s salary.
The Ministry has emphasised that while government remains committed to supporting sports, it expects tangible results that reflect the level of financial investment made by taxpayers.
Government has since directed FAZ to provide a detailed explanation outlining measures being taken to improve the team’s performance, monitoring mechanisms for the head coach’s contract, and reasons why public funding should not be terminated.
FAZ has been given until 20th October 2025 to respond, after which government will make a final decision on the future of its financial relationship with the association.
Meanwhile, the National Sports Council of Zambia has further warned other sports associations to uphold high performance standards, announcing plans to introduce a National Association Performance Criteria.

The coach is the bad investment. Just fire, give him his benefits, get someone else who is serious, even a local coach. Why should entire FAZ suffer because of poor performance of one individual?
Yes,put the coach on cash for work program and the national team on social cash transfer
Me I even suspect betting could be at play mwandi. How can the boys lose to Niger at home sure. They are now playing people’s emotions.
What we need to do is suspend all participation in international competitions and focus on reorganising the game from primary school, secondary school, higher education and amateur leagues. If it means 10years in the wilderness so be it.
It is madness to expect great results when the foundation is very weak. I can’t understand what the basis of our optimism is. I lost interest in Chipolopolo in 1996 after the disappointment of the South African Africa Cup. The national team in its current form is not worth investing my emotional energy. The result is invariably a disappointment.
The whole idea of taking Avram Grant as our coach was all wrong. I said it before. Just because Chelsea made a mistake, which they quickly discovered thanks to their meticulous assessment system, does not mean we fall in the same trap. Having worked for Chelsea for one drarely, arid season was not enough for you to give him the job. Did Kamanga fall for the skin card? We had our own men who could coach the lads better with proven records that take a failed European white man who was preying on the gullible skin fearing Africans like Kamanga!
Learn this lesson: you don’t need a foreign coach. Charles Musonda has European credentials and can speak our languages and knows our culture and behaviour because he comes from here. Give him the job already. Don’t be tribalistic. Don’t follow Kalusha’s hatred and jealousy. This is Mweemba’s call.
