HAIMBE BREAKS SILENCE ON KHAMA’S REMARKS AGAINST PRESIDENT HICHILEMA

By: Mulabasa Staff Reporter

Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mulambo Haimbe has expressed concern over remarks made by former Botswana President Ian Khama against President Hakainde Hichilema, assuring the nation that Zambia is pursuing diplomatic channels to address the matter

Speaking to journalists upon arrival at the airport, Mr Haimbe said the government would issue a comprehensive response at an appropriate time, noting that he was currently observing a bereavement.

The Minister, however, maintained that the remarks attributed to Mr Khama were not expected from a former Head of State of another country.

“Obviously, now I have got a bereavement, which you all know. At an appropriate time, we will respond, but the Ministry is taking a diplomatic approach,” Mr Haimbe said.

He further stated that Zambia was concerned about the comments, emphasizing the importance of respecting the presidency and diplomatic relations between nations.

“I can certainly say it’s not expected of a former president of a different country to make such disparaging remarks about another president of another country. Certainly, we are concerned as Zambia and will continue with diplomatic efforts,” he said.

Mr Haimbe’s comments come amid growing public interest in Zambia’s official position on Mr Khama’s remarks, with the public awaiting further clarification from the government.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is expected to continue handling the matter through diplomatic engagement.
