HARRIET BWALYA KATANEKWA CONDEMNS CALLS TO REMOVE JJ BANDA’S SISTER FROM PARLIAMENT

SP Member of theCentral Committee  (MCC) Harriet Bwalya Mulenga Katanekwa has condemned calls by some UPND cadres for the removal of Petauke Member of Parliament JJ Banda’s sister from Parliament, arguing that she should not be held responsible for her brother’s political differences with the President or the State.

Katanekwa emphasised that JJ Banda and his sister are two distinct individuals, each entitled to be judged on their own actions and merits.

She maintained that the sister earned her place in Parliament through her own efforts and should be allowed to serve without being subjected to political pressure because of her family relationship.

She further questioned the fairness of holding individuals accountable for the actions of their relatives, noting that nobody chooses the family into which they are born.

She urged those calling for her removal to reconsider their position and allow her political career to be determined by her own conduct and performance rather than her brother’s circumstances.

“Munda ni mu chabu. Let us not destroy someone’s political career because of disagreements involving a family member. JJ Banda and his sister are different individuals, and she deserves to be judged on her own merit. Spare her and allow her to serve.”

Katanekwa called for fairness, tolerance and respect for individual responsibility in Zambia’s political discourse, stressing that family ties should not become a weapon for political punishment.
