‘HE STOPPED SLEEPING WITH ME AFTER GETTING HIS PhD’ — WIFE’S CHILLING CLAIM
‘He was ashamed of having sex with an uneducated woman,’ Lyliosa Chirara allegedly wrote in a suicide note before her death.
A NURSE who allegedly attacked her husband with an axe as he slept claimed their sex life ended in 2022 — after he obtained his PhD and allegedly became ashamed of being married to a woman without a university education.
Lyliosa Chirara, 43, made the disturbing claim in a handwritten note published by H-Metro, following the fatal attack on her husband, Midlands State University lecturer and Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission commissioner Martin Muduva, 42.
Chirara allegedly struck Muduva three times on the head with an axe at their home in Dzivarasekwa Extension, Harare, on Tuesday night.
Muduva, an engineer by training, died at Parirenyatwa Hospital on Wednesday morning.
Chirara subsequently died after allegedly consuming rat poison.
In the note, which has not been independently authenticated, Chirara claimed that her husband had stopped entering their bedroom or having sex with her after earning his doctorate.
“From 2022 to 2025 he never entered our bedroom and he never had sex with me because he now had a PhD so his PhD did not want him to have sex with a woman who was not educated,” she allegedly wrote.
The claim forms part of a deeply personal account in which Chirara portrayed herself as a wife battling years of rejection, marital unhappiness and alleged betrayal.
‘HE NOW HAD MONEY AND HAD FORGOTTEN WHERE WE CAME FROM’
Chirara also alleged that Muduva had secretly married another woman, named in the note as Patience Mangwiro, a university official.
She claimed she only discovered the alleged union after seeing a social media post about Mangwiro’s roora ceremony.
“He went to secretly marry the woman, he went with his relatives and I only learnt about it when I saw a status she posted about the Roora Day,” she allegedly wrote.
The note also alleged that Muduva had objected to her keeping 500 chickens for an egg-production business, forcing her to sell them.
She claimed he had told her that his earnings were his own business and that she had no right to know how much he made.
In an emotional passage, Chirara allegedly accused her husband of changing after obtaining his PhD and becoming financially successful.
“I’m crying, I’m suffering, murume avekundisema, kundisvipira mate nhasi nekuti ave nemari, akanganwa kwatakabva.”
The passage suggests that she believed Muduva had come to despise her because of his money and had forgotten their humble beginnings.
‘LET PATIENCE BE HAPPY’
Chirara also appeared to direct a bitter message at Mangwiro.
“Now, let Patiece Mangwiro be happy because all she wanted was to destroy my marriage with Martin,” she allegedly wrote.
She did not spare herself from blame, however, expressing sorrow over the impact of her actions on her children and relatives.
“My kids, they don’t know anything, yes, I wanted to see them grow but I would still have died because of stress, sorry, I have failed,” she allegedly wrote.
In another passage, she apologised to her relatives and Muduva’s family.
“To my mothers, I know I have inflicted pain on you where it hurts the most but understand this letter, I have written it with tears streaming down my cheeks.”
She ended with an appeal for her children to be cared for.
“Chisarai mugarike, please take care of my children,” she allegedly wrote.
The note also referred to the couple’s marriage vow, with Chirara allegedly writing:
“As I had vowed to Martin that our union would only be ended by death, this is the death that I meant.”
The circumstances surrounding the attack and the deaths remain a matter for police investigation. The allegations contained in the handwritten note, including claims about Muduva’s private life and marriage, have not been independently verified.
