HH DOES NOT NEED INDIVIDUAL RECONCILIATION BEFORE INAUGURATION – MALITE
UPND Alliance member Emmanuel Malite says President Hakainde Hichilema does not need to reconcile with individual politicians ahead of his inauguration on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Malite argued that the recent elections were a competitive political contest in which some candidates won while others lost, and that the focus should now shift towards national development rather than individual reconciliation.
“We are not dealing with individuals here. We are talking about the country and how it should forge ahead,” Malite said.
Speaking during Capital FM 99.7 Weekly News Roundup with Womba and Lucy, Malite questioned why President Hichilema should specifically reconcile with Brian Mundubile, arguing that no politician should be treated as more important than others.
He said genuine reconciliation should instead address issues that threaten national unity, including tribalism, hate speech, insults and attempts to divide the country.
“What are we reconciling over? We should stop individualising these elections,” he said.
Malite further called on politicians to take responsibility for their conduct and urged the Church to discourage political statements that could create tension in the country.
“The Church, for me, should be telling politicians not to lead this country into chaos through careless talk,” he said.
He said President Hichilema should focus on governing and delivering development rather than being drawn into individual political disputes
“Ahead of the inauguration, I believe the President should simply lift the Bible and start working,” Malite said.
