HH IS RELIABLE, SAYS SUNDAY CHANDA
PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has proved to be a reliable leader, former Member of Parliament Sunday Chanda has said.
Mr Chanda said the President had consistently listened and responded whenever he raised concerns regarding roads, bridges, schools, health facilities, electricity, communication and Constituency Development Fund (CDF) implementation in Kanchibiya.
He said President Hichilema had demonstrated that development could transcend political differences, despite Mr Chanda having been one of the President’s strongest critics when he was in opposition.
Mr Chanda said this yesterday when announcing his decision to withdraw his petition challenging the outcome of the 2026 Kanchibiya parliamentary election.
Mr Chanda had challenged the election of Sampa Muswema on the National Restoration Party for Unity and Progress ticket, alleging violence, intimidation, corruption, procedural breaches and widespread non compliance with the Electoral Process Act.
He said he had chosen development and the broader interests of the people of Kanchibiya over a prolonged political contest.
Mr Chanda said President Hichilema had been “magnanimous” when the opportunity arose for them to work together for the constituency.
“I was once one of President Hichilema’s strongest critics while he was in Opposition. Yet when the opportunity came to work together for Kanchibiya, I chose to put development above politics, and he was magnanimous in embracing me,” he said.
Mr Chanda quoted President Hichilema as telling him: “Sunday mwaice wandi, I like your talent, isa tubombe bonse.”
He said the decision to work together had produced tangible results for Kanchibiya, including roads, bridges, schools, health facilities and other development projects.
Mr Chanda said he would continue supporting President Hichilema’s vision for Zambia outside Parliament wherever it advanced the interests of the people.
He also called for national unity and warned against tribal politics, saying Zambia belonged to all citizens regardless of tribe, political affiliation, gender or background.
