HH REGARDS WOMEN LOWLY THAT IS WHY HE HAS CONTINUED TO APPOINT FEW WOMEN IN DECISION MAKING POSITIONS.
As Rainbow party on the copperbelt, we are deeply disappointed with President Hakainde Hichilema’ s recent appointment of District commissioners. Contray to people’ s expectations, the President has only appointed few women as District Commisioners. Does it mean that there are no capable women in the country that can take up these influential positions? Some of the people that have been appointed, owing to their advanced age, should have been resting and hence give room to the young and marginalised women to occupy the positions. As a party, just like many other citizens of our country, we were expecting the President to apoint more women as District Commissioners given that the number of women appointed as cabinet ministers was significantly low.
The women folk in this country are very disappointed as their hopes to participate in the governance of their country are once again shattered. It’s so displeasing to see the UPND government interested only in using women to sing and dance during election campaigns. When elections are over and it’s time to share positions, women are sidelined.
As Rainbow party copperbelt provincial chairlady, I call upon the President to rescind the decision and ensure that more women are appointed in these decision making positions. I further appeal to the NGOs especially women groups to come out and speak against these unfair appointments.
