HH WON AUGUST ELECTION WITH 57.9%, NOT 60% SAYS CSOs.
President Hakainde Hichilema won the August 2026 presidential election with 57.9 percent of the vote, according to a Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) conducted by a consortium of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).
The figure is slightly below the 60 percent figure that has been circulating in some quarters, bringing renewed attention to the importance of verified election data and how the final results are communicated to the public.
According to the Consortium’s August 2026 Interim Elections and PVT Report, released on Monday, the PVT recorded President Hichilema’s national vote share at 57.9 percent.
The report represents an independent statistical assessment of the election based on votes collected from sampled polling stations, rather than relying solely on political claims or preliminary figures circulating on social media.
The difference between 57.9 percent and 60 percent may appear small, but in an election, every percentage point represents a significant number of voters.
The Consortium said its national level PVT totalled 57.9 percent for President Hichilema, indicating that he secured a clear majority of the votes cast.
The finding also provides an important basis for public discussion at a time when election figures can easily become distorted through political statements, social media posts and unofficial projections.
For supporters of President Hichilema, the 57.9 percent PVT figure still represents a decisive victory. For those demanding greater scrutiny of the electoral process, however, the report provides another opportunity to examine how votes were counted, verified and ultimately translated into the national result.
The Consortium’s PVT report consequently adds another important layer to the public record of the August 2026 election, while the official results remain the legally recognised basis for determining the winner.

This is the more reason the petition should not have been killed by locking down the courts.
We would have established the source of this discrepancy and taken corrective and preventive measures. Now the opportunity has been lost and UPND will have dirt on its face for the next five years.
ECZ says one thing and reliable PVT says something else. Then the petition is killed. Who do you believe? I believe the PVT figure though it makes no difference to the ultimate fact that HH won the election.
This is what makes the whole thing mind boggling. Did someone panic?
Mundubile is the only one who panicked. He went ahead and announced himself a winner after just under 1% of the votes had been counted, creating a cloud of doubt over the elections. Either way PVT or no PVT am glad HH won it fair and square. We move on to the next assignment—-inauguration.
What difference does it make..? A win is a win. Pres HH surpassed the 50+1% threshold so all good and dandy. Show this to Mundubile and Makebi to stop making noise about petitions.
We need to move on as a country. Respect the office of the President.
The petition is supposed to be used when the marine is small. I believe he won close to 65%. The criminal Mundubile declared at the time HH’s lead started stretching. There plan was to create confusion early enough. Cause chaos everywhere steal ballot boxes, burn them and leash caders and present Mwamba’s AI generated GEN GEN20 forms amid looting and civil war. They had no plans, but to loot, bring back lawlessness. People had already made their choice so what is the petion for??
Whichever way one looks at it, those who voted for HH were more than those who voted for Mundubile. Whether it is 54% fine HH won. Let’s move forward. We want to put on our boots and overalls and start work.
