‎HH you are making it hard for democrats across Africa to support you – ex-Zimbabwe minister Coltart

‎‎Zimbabwe’s former minister of education, sports, arts and culture David Coltart has responded to a Reuters story on the closure of the courts in Zambia on the final day of the appeal saying it makes it hard for democrats across Africa to support his government.

‎”@HHichilema I hope this story is false. I urge you to investigate what is happening as this looks bad and makes it hard for democrats across Africa to support your government,” stated Coltart on his Twitter feed. “There can be no justification for the interference with judicial process.”

‎Reuters reported that the Zambian authorities closed the country’s top courts on Monday, blocking access to the premises on the last day that the opposition could file a challenge to this month’s disputed election.

‎And in a joint statement signed by LCK Freedom Foundation executive director Linda Kasonde, the 7 civil society organisations including Advocates for Democratic Governance, ActionAid Zambia, Carnitas Zambia, Chapter One Foundation, NGOCC and Free Press  Initiative, the organisations denounced the unprecedented shutdown of the entire judiciary on the final day for filing of the presidential election petition, and demanded the immediate resumption of court services.

‎”The undersigned civil society organisations condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the sudden and total shutdown of the Judiciary of Zambia today, 24 August 2026 — the last day on which a petition challenging the results of the 13 August 2026 presidential election
‎may lawfully be filed under Article 103 of the Constitution,” read the statement in part.

“We have received credible reports that court premises across the country have been surrounded by members of the armed forces and security wings, and that judicial services have been suspended in their entirety, on the stated basis of an unspecified and unnamed ‘security threat.’ No further particulars of this alleged threat have been placed…https://dailyrevelationzambia.com/hh-you-are-making-it-hard-for-democrats-across-africa-to-support-you-ex-zimbabwe-minister-coltart/

  1. Hmmmm the one to file petition why didn’t he do it BEFORE? Only to think of filing the paper today??. He is indeed in dream LAND.

6 days he didn’t file this shows that he HAD NO EVIDENCE and was aiming at embarrassing the president.

  2. Mr Coulthard, You’re better off keeping your mouth shut. You are just as ignorant as the same people you are following. 70% to 80% of the Zambians are happy with HH. I would not like to demean you, but it appears you can not assess and analyse issues. I have to bring you to speed! When the ConCourt ruled that Lungu was not eligible to stand as a presidential candidate and Lungu talked of plan B! What do think he meant? To simplify it for you he meant taking over government using unconstitutional means. The sneaking out of JJ Banda to Kafue and try to blame the government of kidnapping him was part of plan B to cause uprising, followed by his escape from hospital custody to Zimbabwe. Who do you think assisted him to escape from the hospital and ended up in Zimbabwe? Easy, some commandos who had worked with Lungu at the time. What happened when he was found to be hiding in Zimbabwe was was supposed to be brought back to Zambia? How did he end up in the UK??? Zambia and Zambians don’t need that type of friendship! Zambia had looked and supported Zimbabweans during liberation and can afford saboteurs for friendship. You should focus your interests on Zimbabwean politics when you don’t know what you are talking about. Why do you think they still didn’t bury Lungu’s body? Politics also demand above average intelligence instead of just depending on propaganda! You haven’t asked why they did fill in 72 constituencies but was very fast at claiming winning the elections. Zambia is not being run by the calibres of Mugabe or Mnangagwa. HH is 100 times better than Zimbabwean leadership. Think first before expressing your views. Mundubile and Tonse prepared for a win and nothing else at all cost! So just watch and shut it.
