HICHILEMA DISAPPOINTS LAURA MITI ON PROPOSED NEW MINISTRIES.

Human rights activist Laura Miti says she is disappointed with President Hakainde Hichilema’s proposed increase and realignment of ministries.

The activist has questioned President Hakainde Hichilema’s government priorities following proposals to establish new ministries at a time when critical programmes affecting ordinary Zambians are facing financial challenges.

Ms. Miti wonders why the government is considering ministries such as Petroleum, Industry and Culture when the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is reportedly facing reductions and the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) cannot purchase all the maize available from farmers.

She argues that the government’s priorities appear misplaced, particularly when rural communities that depend heavily on agriculture and CDF-funded development projects are struggling.

Ms. Miti has sarcastically suggested that, at this rate, the government might as well create a Ministry of Ministers.

“I am surprised there is no Ministry of Ministers,” she remarked.

The outspoken activist has further questioned how rural voters, whom she credits with returning the government to power, will benefit from the proposed restructuring.

“Ine, I just want to know how the rural voters, who put this government back in office, benefit from all this – kaili CDF, FRA mujuba,” Ms. Miti stated.

Her remarks raise questions about whether expanding government structures should take priority over funding programmes that directly improve people’s livelihoods.

For rural farmers waiting to sell their maize and communities depending on CDF for development, the question remains: Will creating more ministries put food on their tables or bring development to their villages?
