HICHILEMA MUST PRIORITISE TRUTH, FORGIVENESS SAYS PASTOR NSAMA.
Pastor Peter K. Nsama has written an open letter to President Hakainde Hichilema, urging the Head of State to prioritise truth, compassion, fairness and national reconciliation in addressing issues affecting the country.
In his letter, Pastor Nsama raised several concerns surrounding recent political and national developments, appealing to the President to demonstrate leadership that promotes unity, justice and respect for human rights.
The pastor expressed concern over the death of former Minister Mutotwe Kafwaya on August 14 during a security operation, saying the circumstances surrounding his death needed to be clearly explained to his family and the nation.
He stressed that the family deserved answers and called for transparency and accountability regarding what happened.
Pastor Nsama also referred to the 18 people who were in custody, including Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu, whose bail application was scheduled to be heard on November 6.
He appealed to authorities to ensure that all those in custody are treated with dignity and that their legal rights are respected as the judicial process continues.
On democracy and political participation, Pastor Nsama raised concerns over the by-elections in Mandevu and Lumezi, arguing that voters should always have genuine choices when exercising their democratic rights.
He maintained that democracy should not simply be about holding elections but also ensuring that citizens have meaningful opportunities to choose their representatives.
The pastor further referred to recent reports by the European Union and Human Rights Watch, noting that although Government had responded to some of the concerns raised, national healing required more than official statements.
He argued that lasting reconciliation could only be achieved through fairness, accountability, transparency and strong independent institutions.
Pastor Nsama appealed to President Hichilema to allow the law to operate without fear or favour, strengthen public institutions and take deliberate steps towards rebuilding trust among Zambians.
He also called on citizens across the political divide to reject hatred and political divisions, warning against allowing differences in political affiliation to destroy the country’s unity.
He urged the Head of State to use his leadership to promote reconciliation and ensure that every Zambian feels protected, respected and treated fairly regardless of their political affiliation. Zambian Watch.
