Hichilema needs four terms as President — Mtonga
UPND member George Mtonga has joined several other party-aligned members proposing a prolonged stay in office for President Hakainde Hichilema beyond the constitutional limit of two terms.
“President Hakainde Hichilema’s plans need a whole 20 years for them to create the value that I expect. The idea that this can be done in 10 years is almost impossible. It takes four years to go through documents before money even moves,” Mtonga postulates.
He continues: “The HH ideology must govern this country for 20 years for it to produce the value that I have always calculated.”

No he doesn’t. He can groom a capable successor. This debate is unnecessary.
Utter rubbish.
There is no such a thing as Mr. Hichilema needing four terms to create the wealth this Mr. Mtonga has in his dreams. That responsibility should lie with the party, UPND. If Mr. Huchilema has failed to sell his ideology to the party faithful and thus ensure continuity, then he is a poor leader and we, as citizens cannot be held hostage.
Mr. Hichilema’s mandate expires in August 2031. If by that time he has not groomed a successor from within UPND, we will look elsewhere for a replacement.
This noise about HH going beyond two terms must not be taken lightly. As citizens, we must prepare to vigorously resist any such attempt.
I woukd advise the President to focus on Zambia’s development agenda instead of listening to these distractors, unless of course he doesnot care about his good legacy.
It would be very sad if he winds up being booed off the stage because he makes a wrong move like going for a third and fourth term.
My thoughts also. Even one 5 year-term is enough to develop a country. National Development is like a Relay Race, Runners pass on the Batons to other Runners, however, Usain Bolt a Runner may be.
Third term in Zambia is unthinkable. It can’t work. I know Zambians when they say NO, it is a NO. They will even forget about development and gang up to make it not happen. In the process we may get an undesirable leader. We are not prepared to experience that. Those of you who have gotten appointments don’t be too excited as to wish for that. Remember there are 20 million of us eking out a living.
