HICHILEMA WON’T BE SWORN IN YET, WE ARE PETITIONING SAYS MUNDUBILE.
NRPUP Presidential Candidate Brian Mundubile says President Hakainde Hichilema will not be sworn in yet, as he is preparing for a legal battle to challenge the declared election results.
Mr. Mundubile insists that he did not lose the election to Mr. Hakainde Hichilema and says he is ready to take the matter to court, where he believes the evidence will expose what he describes as a rigged election.
According to Mr. Mundubile, his Parallel Voter Tabulation (PVT) and results collected by his G20 teams point to serious irregularities, particularly in Southern, Northern-Western and Western Provinces.
And just when the election dispute appeared to be entering its most dangerous phase, Mr. Mundubile says he was forced into hiding after unknown men allegedly broke into his property and opened fire at people.
He says the threats did not stop after the incident, leaving him with no choice but to seek protection under the United Nations compound.
“We are challenging the announcement of results because we believe we have sufficient grounds to prove that this Election was rigged. Southern, Western and North-Western provinces are areas of concern. We have the G20’s that prove that we won the elections,” he said.
The declaration has now opened a potentially explosive new chapter in the election saga, with the country waiting to see whether the courts will be asked to examine the evidence being cited by the opposition candidate.
But an electoral expert has poured cold water on Mundubile’s claim, arguing that even if President Hichilema agreed to remove all the votes from Southern Province, Mundubile would still not have enough votes to win the election.
The battle may therefore be far from over and the next showdown could now move from the polling stations to the courtroom.
