Hichilema’s hatred has put my life in danger, says ex-Chilubi MP
FORMER Chilubi Member of Parliament Mulenga Fube says his life is in danger following remarks by President Hakainde Hichilema, whom he accuses of portraying him as “a bad person” before the people of Chilubi.
Fube said it was inappropriate for a Head of State to harbour what he described as personal hatred towards an ordinary citizen, especially someone he claims has never had any personal interaction with the President.
Speaking during an interview on Crown TV, Fube accused President Hichilema of shifting blame for what he termed his own failures instead of taking responsibility.
“If you have failed, just fail. Don’t blame other people’s children for your failures. But I must tell you that the people of Chilubi are clever.
They are people who cannot be lied to. They analyse. The people themselves see, and it should not take Hakainde Hichilema to tell them that I am a bad person,” Fube said.
He argued that only the people of Chilubi, whom he said know him personally, are in a position to judge his character.
“The people are the ones who are supposed to tell me that I am a bad person because I stay with them, I mourn with them and I eat with them. I rejoice with them and they are the ones who have given birth to me, not Hakainde Hichilema to go and tell them that, ‘this is a bad person.’ Didn’t you see that was personal hatred?” he said.
Fube further claimed that President Hichilema had not made similar remarks against other Members of Parliament but had singled out legislators with whom he has had political differences.
“He has not said such things against any other MP, but only his MPs, those he has differed with politically. But to me, he took it very personal. I even fear for my life that the President can have such kind of hatred. It’s bad for a President to speak about a simple citizen of my character like that,” he said.
Questioning the basis of the President’s alleged hateful remarks, Fube said they had never shared any personal relationship that would enable the Head of State to make such a judgment about him.
“At what point did I interact with President Hichilema for him to know that I am a bad person? At what point? Had he ever fed me? No. Do I go to the same church with him? No. Am I his direct relative? No. So, when did he have knowledge that I am really a bad person?” he asked.
Fube went on to describe the alleged hateful remarks as ” hate speech” and accused the President of abusing the authority of his office.
“That’s hate speech. Just that he is a President. But he is abusing his position. That is hate speech, to go and tell the people of Chilubi, ‘that is a bad person,'” he said.
He also claimed that residents of Chilubi were surprised by the President’s remarks, adding that President Hichilema later promised development projects which, according to him, he had previously presented to Parliament but were allegedly not allowed.
