HIGHER EDUCATION AUTHORITY APPROVES THE ZAMBIA DEFENCE UNIVERSITY AS A HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION
The Zambia High Education Authority has approved the Zambia Defence University (ZDU) as a higher education institution provided all the conditions required are met.
This came to light when the Chairperson of the ZDU Steering Committee, Brig Gen Mary Musendo and her delegation paid a Courtesy Call on the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Commander, Lt Gen Oscar Msitu Nyoni on Thursday, 08 October 2026.
Speaking when he received the delegation, the Air Force Commander said he recognized the importance of operationalizing the ZDU, backed by Statutory Instrument No.03 of 2018, as a monumental step forward for Professional Military Education in Zambia.
Lt Gen Nyoni said the Defence Chiefs remain unwavering in their support to the ZDU roadmap as Professional Military Education was no longer a luxury but an absolute necessity.
In her reciprocal remarks, Brig Gen Musendo mentioned that the purpose for her visit was for her to introduce herself following her appointment as Chairperson of the ZDU Steering Committee, having taken over from Brig Gen Francis Kasempa.
She further stated that she was also pleased to give an update on the progress made so far in ensuring that the ZDU is operational.
She thanked the Air Force Commander for rendering a listening ear and for the assurance of his support towards birthing ZDU.
