Houthi Claims Attack on Aramco Facility Near Riyadh as Large Fire Erupts
A large plume of smoke and fire was seen rising near a Saudi Aramco facility south of Riyadh on October 3, amid escalating fighting between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement.
The Houthis claimed they targeted the Aramco facility with ballistic missiles and drones, saying the attack caused fires at the site.
Saudi authorities and Aramco have not confirmed that the fire was caused by an attack. A Saudi-led coalition spokesman later described the Houthi claims of targeting Riyadh as misleading.
The incident came as fighting intensified ahead of Yemen’s Saudi-backed government announcing a major military operation against the Houthis on October 4.
