HOW MOBILE MONEY LENDING IS DESTROYING ZAMBIANS’ BORROWING CHANCES

Mobile lending services like Airtel Kwacha, MTN Kaloba, ZedMobile and other apps have destroyed the financial future of many Zambians.

How?

Because every K50 delayed to be paid is immediately reported to the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).

A Zambian borrows K100 for talk time or mealie-meal, fails to pay for 3 days because salary delayed, and boom – he is blacklisted at CRB.

Effects

1. K50 Destroys K500,000 Future.
You fail to pay K50 Kaloba today, tomorrow you go to get a mortgage, car loan, or business loan at Zanaco or NATSAVE, they check CRB – you are listed as a defaulter. Loan denied for a K50.

2. Youths Are The Most Affected Over 70% of youths are now blacklisted because of Airtel/MTN loans. They cannot access CEEC, CDF empowerment, or SME loans because CRB says they are bad borrowers.

3. No Financial Education These mobile companies never explain that this K100 is a loan that goes to CRB. People think it’s just “advance”. No proper contract.

4. Exploitative Interest.
You borrow K200, you pay K280 in 7 days – 40% interest. If you delay
