For 276 MPs, the basic mathematics is staggering:
– K178.8 MILLION — annual basic salaries
– K894.2 MILLION — salaries over five years
– K966 MILLION — K3.5 million gratuity for 276 MPs
= K1.86 BILLION — salaries + gratuity over five years
And remember: sitting allowances and other benefits are not included in that K1.86 billion calculation.
The question for citizens is simple:
How much should taxpayers spend maintaining Parliament while ordinary Zambians continue struggling with the rising cost of living?
