The Human Rights Commission is calling on the Zambia Police Service and other law enforcement agencies to urgently clarify the whereabouts of former Lunte Member of Parliament Mutotwe Kafwaya.
The Commission says that if Mr Kafwaya is in lawful state custody, his place of detention should be disclosed to ensure due process is followed without hindrance, and that he is entitled to unhindered access to his family and legal representatives under established minimum human rights standards.
The Commission says it has been following up on reports concerning Mr Kafwaya’s whereabouts since Sunday, 16th August, and that investigators have visited Chelstone, Matero, Lusaka Central and Kabwata police stations, where they were informed he is not in their custody. The Commission says the Zambia Police command has not provided any further information on the matter.
As of Tuesday 18th August, the Commission said it would extend its inquiries to Chilenje, Twin Palm and Woodlands police stations, and continue engaging investigators at Zambia Police Service headquarters. It has committed to providing an update as further inquiries progress.
What if he has fled the country ? If this is the case, he will at some point communicate with his family. And tell family not to say anything about this.
No dead body had been identified to confidently say he is dead. He is not in any prison. He is not in any hospital.
