RE: HUMBLE APPEAL TO HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA ON MINISTERIAL APPOINTMENTS – CONSIDERATION OF HON. ELISHA MATAMBO FOR MINISTER OF MINES OR LABOUR

Your Excellency,

We wish to commend you, His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema, for the exemplary leadership you have shown through the caliber of appointments to critical ministries such as Health, Foreign Affairs, and Finance.

OUR REQUEST FROM THE COPPERBELT

As residents and stakeholders of the Copperbelt Province, we humbly request that you consider Hon. Elisha Matambo for appointment as Minister of Mines and Minerals Development or Minister of Labour and Social Security in your forthcoming reshuffle.

WHY HON. MATAMBO?

Hon. Matambo, born 5th February 1970, is a marketing executive by profession and currently serves as Member of Parliament for Lufwanyama. He has served as Provincial Minister for Copperbelt Province since 27th August 2021and formerly as UPND Provincial Chairman for the Copperbelt.

This long service gives him a unique and deep understanding of the Copperbelt, its people, and the challenges facing miners and mining communities. He has demonstrated:

– Leadership and passion for the province’s economic recovery, as seen in his oversight of key projects like the Shaft 28 dewatering project in Luanshya expected to create over 3,000 jobs.
– Commitment to quality development, holding contractors and agencies accountable for poor road works and service delivery on the Copperbelt.
– Humility, integrity and outstanding loyalty* to your vision of restoring full mining operations and delivering development.

While no man is perfect, we believe Hon. Matambo has been exceptional in his service. Speaking with an independent mind, he understands the problems miners are facing and is best placed to bridge the gap between policy and the people.

OUR PLEA TO HON. MATAMBO

As God leads him into another position of influence, our appeal is that he:

1. Empower many youths involved in mining and artisanal mining through proper licensing and support.
2. Ensure party members and ordinary Zambians from all sectors of life also benefit from mining and labour reforms.
3. Continue to be a listening leader who addresses issues affecting Copperbelt residents, from employment to water challenges and local contractor empowerment

We are aware you are a leader that listens. We kindly ask that you pay attention to how our people on the Copperbelt are feeling and address the challenges they face by entrusting this strategic docket to a son of the Copperbelt who understands it.

Yours faithfully,
Barnabas Chikoseleshi
Advocate
Copperbelt Province
