I DON’T WANT TO BE LOCAL GOVERNMENT MINISTER, MAYORSHIP IS ENOUGH SAYS CHITAMBALA.

Lusaka City Council Mayor-Elect Mwewa Chitambala says he has no interest in becoming Minister of Local Government after serving as Mayor.

Mr. Chitambala was responding to a Lusaka resident identified only as John, who congratulated him on his efforts to clean up the city.

John told Mr. Chitambala that, because of the work he is doing in Lusaka, he should consider becoming Minister of Local Government in 2031 so that he can help make cities across the country cleaner.

However, Mr. Chitambala said he is not interested in the ministerial position and is instead focused on his work as Lusaka Mayor.

“I don’t want to be Minister for Local Government. I don’t want that! I’m just focused on being Lusaka Mayor and making Lusaka City clean and safe for all of us,” Mr. Chitambala said.

Mr. Chitambala has also criticised some cadres for occupying spaces and setting up businesses in areas that are not designated for such activities.

He said some people appear to believe that being a cadre makes them more important than other Zambians.

“I have a challenge with cadres. They are taking spaces to put up unplanned businesses. Like this one here, this is not a place to sell cars from. I don’t understand where they get the idea that they are more special than other Zambians,” he said.

Mr. Chitambala said the council would eventually deal with such activities and restore order in the city.

“Anyway, we will deal with this. We will sort it out eventually,” he said.
