During a red carpet interview with PEOPLE at the NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday, Meagan Good touched on her relationship with Jonathan Majors, saying that she’s currently in a better place.

Saturday was the first time the couple appeared at a prominent awards show after Majors, 34, was found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. Majors’ December 2023 conviction traces back to a March 2023 incident in downtown Manhattan involving a heated argument with Jabbari.

Despite her current beau’s legal woes, Good, 42, confirmed they’re in a good space and also provided an update on her personal life.

“I’m in love, I’m transitioning, I’m healing, I’m growing [and] I’m getting excited about what’s next,” the Think Like a Man star said. “Yeah, just a lot of things at once. But what I can say is, I’m the happiest I’ve been in a long time.”

Good currently stars in the Amazon Prime comedy series, Harlem. The actress cited the show as one of those positives and expressed her pleasure with being a part of it.

“It is like a crazy time in general,” she stated. “I just have peace in my heart and I have joy in my heart, and I love myself and the skin that I’m in and the season that I’m in and the growth that’s happening.”

The 42-year-old also spoke about her mental health and how she takes care of herself despite the talks about their relationship because of Majors’ current situation.

“I keep my eyes on God, you know, that’s the focus,” the Shazam! Fury of the Gods actress said. “And I stay true to myself and I stay authentic. I know what I know that I know. And in time, everything else just catches up with what you know, if you’re true to yourself and you’re authentic.”

She added: “There’s some things you just gotta be like, ‘I ain’t got time for that. Let me go see what my nephew’s doing. Let me see what my mama’s doing. Let me go see what my man’s doing. Let me go get this job,’ ”

Elsewhere in the interview, Good, who was previously married to producer and author DeVon Franklin, spoke about how Majors’ three dogs treat her.

“They love me,” she told PEOPLE. “They protect me. They’re so gentle and wonderful and emotional and it blows my mind because I was not a dog person. I like dogs, but I didn’t want one. Now, I have three.”

Although Majors faces a misdemeanor charge and a potential one-year jail term, the repercussions of his guilty verdict have already impacted him beyond the courtroom. The guilty verdict resulted in his removal from his Marvel role as Kang the Conqueror.
