IMF, Seychelles, Mozambique, AUDA-NEPAD and Egypt congratulate Hichilema
The International Monetary Fund (IMF), Seychelles, Mozambique, the African Union Development Agency–NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD) and Egypt have congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election, pledging continued cooperation with Zambia as he begins another term in office.
Lusaka, 27 August – IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva assured President Hichilema of the Fund’s unequivocal commitment to supporting what she described as Zambia’s ambitious developmental agenda.
In her congratulatory message, Georgieva said the IMF looked forward to working closely with Mr Hichilema and his administration to deepen engagement and advance the shared objective of building a more prosperous Zambia.
“The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election as President of the Republic of Zambia,” the message stated.
Georgieva said the Fund would continue to support Zambia’s development ambitions and work with the government to strengthen their existing engagement.
The messages of congratulations also came from Seychelles President Patrick Herminie, who expressed confidence that Mr Hichilema’s continued leadership would keep Zambia on a path towards progress and prosperity.
President Herminie said he believed the new term would provide an opportunity for Zambia to further advance its development under Mr Hichilema’s leadership.
Mozambican President Daniel Francisco Chapo also congratulated Mr Hichilema, describing his electoral victory as a sign of renewed confidence from the Zambian people in his leadership and vision.
President Chapo said the result reflected the confidence Zambians had placed in Mr Hichilema to continue leading the country.
Meanwhile, AUDA-NEPAD Chief Executive Officer Nardos Bekele-Thomas said the continental development agency valued its partnership with Zambia and remained committed to supporting the country’s development priorities.
Bekele-Thomas said AUDA-NEPAD would continue working with Zambia in support of its development objectives and its contribution to the implementation of Africa’s Agenda 2063.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi also extended his congratulations to Mr Hichilema and expressed his desire to further strengthen relations between Zambia and Egypt.
President Sisi said Egypt was keen to build on the existing foundation of bilateral relations between the two countries and deepen cooperation across various areas.
He also expressed a commitment to strengthening coordination between Zambia and Egypt on regional and international matters.
