Immigration Department   has confirmed the detention of Senior Immigration Officer Masheke Masheke following an alleged attempt to irregularly facilitate the exit of Mr. Jonas Zimba from Zambia

The Department of Immigration has confirmed the detention of Senior Immigration Officer Masheke Masheke following an alleged attempt to irregularly facilitate the exit of Mr. Jonas Zimba from Zambia through the Victoria Falls Border Control in Livingstone.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday, 17th August 2026.
According to preliminary investigations, Mr. Masheke, who is stationed at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport, allegedly attempted to facilitate Mr. Zimba’s departure from the country outside the established procedures.
The attempt was detected by Immigration and Zambia Revenue Authority officers who were on duty at the border.

The Department says that when officers approached Mr. Zimba, he fled in the direction of Livingstone.

Mr. Masheke was subsequently detained at Livingstone Central Police Station, where he is assisting police with investigations into the matter.

Chief Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka says serious investigations are ongoing and that appropriate action will be taken once the investigations are concluded.
