India’s Defense Exports Reach Record High, Surging 63%

India’s defense exports reportedly reached a record $4.5–$4.6 billion during the 2025–2026 financial year, marking a 63% increase and highlighting New Delhi’s growing ambitions in the global arms market.

The surge has been driven in part by exports of advanced Indian-made defense systems, including:

🔹 BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles
🔹 Akash air-defense systems
🔹 Pinaka multiple rocket launchers
🔹 ATAGS advanced artillery guns

These systems have reportedly been exported to more than 80 countries, with 145 Indian defense exporters contributing to the expansion of the country’s military-industrial sector.

The Indian government is now targeting defense exports worth between $5.23 billion and $7 billion by 2029. The ambition has gained further momentum following Operation Sindoor, which highlighted India’s focus on strengthening domestic defense production and expanding its position as a global arms supplier.

India’s growing defense-export industry reflects its broader strategy to reduce dependence on foreign weapons and establish itself as a major player in the international defense market.
