Iran Activates Underground “Missile Cities” Deep Inside the Mountains
Iran has reportedly moved to activate its underground “missile cities” as part of efforts to protect its missile arsenal and launch capabilities from renewed airstrikes.
The facilities are built deep inside mountainous terrain and contain missile storage areas, launch systems and supporting infrastructure. Iran has publicly showcased several such underground complexes over the years.
Their underground construction is intended to make them harder to detect and destroy, particularly against conventional airstrikes and bunker-penetrating weapons. However, previous strikes have demonstrated that underground facilities are not necessarily immune to attack.
The reported activation would allow Iran to disperse and protect its missile forces while maintaining the ability to launch from hardened positions, adding another layer to Tehran’s strategy of surviving sustained air attacks.
