IRAN AND OMAN WILL DECIDE WHO PAYS TO PASS THROUGH THE STRAIT
Iran’s ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, said that Tehran and Muscat are negotiating the cost of services related to transit through the Strait of Hormuz and that an appropriate decision will be made in the future.
As Iranian officials and the Foreign Ministry announced, Iran and Oman are negotiating and making decisions about the security of the Strait of Hormuz and the regime governing the passage of ships through this waterway, Jalali told Russia’s state-run TASS news agency.
This is a significant development. Iran is not asking. It is not negotiating with the US. It is not seeking permission from the international community. It is sitting down with Oman and deciding the rules.
Who pays? How much? Under what conditions? Those are the questions being decided in Muscat, not Washington.
Iran controls the strait. Oman is the mediator. The US is not at the table.
