Iran Claims It Destroyed U.S. Saildrone in Strait of Hormuz
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy claims it targeted and destroyed a U.S.-operated Saildrone Explorer unmanned surface vessel while it was conducting a mission near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian reports said the unmanned vessel was operating in the strategic waterway when it came under attack by IRGC forces. The claim adds another escalation to the growing confrontation between Iran and the United States over maritime surveillance and control of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Saildrone Explorer is an autonomous maritime platform designed for long-endurance missions, including ocean monitoring, maritime surveillance and intelligence collection.
The reported destruction has not been independently confirmed, and no immediate U.S. confirmation of the loss was available. The incident remains part of Iran’s latest claims of attacks against U.S. maritime assets in the region.
