Iran Denies Reports That Strait of Hormuz Has Fully Reopened
Reports claiming that Iran has fully reopened the Strait of Hormuz are inaccurate, according to Iran’s Fars News Agency.
Fars stated that Iran’s position has not changed and rejected claims that restrictions on maritime traffic through the strategic waterway have been lifted.
According to the agency, commercial vessels seeking to transit the Strait of Hormuz are still required to obtain authorization and coordinate with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy before passage.
The statement indicates that the current procedures governing navigation remain in effect, despite recent speculation that Tehran had eased its controls over one of the world’s most critical energy shipping routes. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime chokepoint through which a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports pass, making any restrictions or operational changes closely watched by international markets and governments.
Iran has not announced any broader policy shift regarding the waterway, and Fars emphasized that the existing coordination requirements remain in force.
