Iran insists on Hormuz service fee despite diplomatic progress – Al Jazeera
Diplomatic engagement between Iran and the United States has made progress, but Tehran continues to insist on charging a “service fee” and retaining the leading role in managing the Strait of Hormuz, according to Al Jazeera
The broadcaster reported that an Omani delegation recently visited Tehran to discuss a future mechanism for administering the strategic waterway.
According to the report, Oman has proposed establishing a regional consortium to oversee shipping through the strait without collecting transit tolls.
Iran, however, continues to oppose alternative shipping arrangements and insists that any future mechanism be managed by Tehran while allowing it to charge vessels a service fee.
