Iran-Linked Group Reportedly Used U.S.-Developed AI to Target American Warships
An Iran-linked group reportedly used Anthropic’s Claude AI model, developed in the United States, in an operation aimed at tracking U.S. warships in the Middle East, according to a report from Anthropic.
The group allegedly combined ship and aircraft transponder data, military photographs and commercial satellite imagery to identify and monitor U.S. vessels and search for potential weaknesses in their communications systems.
Anthropic said it has since disrupted the operation, which it described as an abuse of its Claude AI system.
The report highlights growing concerns over the use of advanced AI by state-linked actors for military intelligence and targeting operations.
