Iran Offers Hormuz Reopening if U.S. Ends Naval Blockade
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran is prepared to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if the United States ends its naval blockade and fulfills its commitments under the existing framework between the two countries.
Pezeshkian said Iran had agreed with Oman on a proposed route for commercial vessels through the strategic waterway, but reopening would depend on Washington lifting the blockade and sanctions and honoring other commitments.
The proposal comes as the Strait of Hormuz remains heavily disrupted, with commercial shipping sharply reduced amid the escalating confrontation between Iran and the United States.
Iran’s offer could provide a potential opening for diplomatic efforts to restore maritime traffic through one of the world’s most important energy corridors, although no final agreement with Washington has been reached.
