Iran Rejects Trump Threat to Control Strait of Hormuz
Iran has strongly rejected remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting that Washington could take control of the Strait of Hormuz to ensure the passage of commercial vessels.
Iranian authorities said on August 15–16 that the strategically important waterway would remain under Iranian sovereignty and rejected any attempt by the United States to impose control over the strait.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime route connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and is one of the world’s most important routes for global energy shipments
The exchange comes amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington, with control and freedom of navigation through the strait remaining a major point of dispute.
