Iran Responds With Maritime Drones and Threatens to Close Strait of Hormuz

Iran has responded to the destruction of oil tankers linked to its energy network by deploying uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) and launching additional missiles toward commercial shipping and U.S.-linked patrol vessels, according to Iranian-linked reports.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has also threatened to formally restrict access to the Strait of Hormuz for vessels connected to the United States and its allies.

The move represents a further escalation in the maritime confrontation between Tehran and Washington, with the IRGC signaling that commercial shipping could face additional restrictions if U.S. strikes against Iranian-linked tankers continue.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy shipments, remains at the center of the confrontation. Any sustained disruption could affect oil and gas flows through the region and increase pressure on international shipping.
