Iran Sets Conditions for Talks, Warns of Wider War if Trump Rejects Them
Iran has reportedly presented Washington with conditions for entering negotiations aimed at ending the war, delivered to the United States through Qatar hours ago.
According to the account, Tehran also issued a warning to President Donald Trump, saying that if Washington rejects the conditions, the next phase could be a broader war from which the United States would have difficulty finding a way out.
The reported demands come amid noticeable changes in Washington, including Trump’s decision to cut short his time away from the White House and return to Washington.
Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, said in an interview broadcast by Al Jazeera on Friday night:
“If the United States wants to get out of the difficult situation it has created for itself, and does not want the situation to deteriorate further, it must accept Iran’s conditions.”
What does Iran want before talks can begin?
According to Rezaei, Iran’s conditions include:
A complete cessation of hostilities on all fronts, referring to Iran as well as the regional groups and countries aligned with Tehran.
The release of frozen Iranian funds and assets.
An end to the blockade of Iranian ports.
Iran has reportedly made acceptance of these conditions a prerequisite for beginning negotiations with Washington.
