Iran warns it will block Strait of Hormuz to firms taking frozen assets
Iran’s armed forces will block any company or country from passing through the Strait of Hormuz if they accept money from frozen Iranian assets, a military spokesperson said in a statement on Tuesday.
The warning from the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters follows plans by US President Donald Trump to compensate damaged shipping vessels using seized Iranian funds.
“We warn the criminal president of the US regarding the consequences of this illegal action,” the military command spokesperson said. “The armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer allow any of their vessels to navigate through the Strait of Hormuz.”
The statement said the US caused regional instability and directed ships along unsafe routes through the southern Strait of Hormuz during recent conflict, leading to vessel damage.
