IRAN WARNS US AND ISRAEL THAT CONTINUED MILITARY STRIKES COULD PUSH TEHRAN TO RECONSIDER ITS NUCLEAR DOCTRINE AND WITHDRAW FROM THE NPT
Iranian official Mohsen Rezaei has warned that continued US and Israeli military operations against Iran could force Tehran to reconsider its nuclear policy, including the possibility of developing nuclear weapons and withdrawing from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Rezaei said no final decision has been made regarding either option but warned that repeated attacks on Iranian territory and infrastructure are increasing domestic and parliamentary pressure to abandon the country’s longstanding opposition to nuclear weapons.
Iranian hardliners have increasingly argued that acquiring nuclear weapons could provide Tehran with a stronger deterrent against future military attacks by the United States and Israel.
The warning comes amid escalating tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme, with Washington and Tel Aviv maintaining that preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains a major security priority.
However, a potential Iranian withdrawal from the NPT and move towards nuclear weapons development could trigger a wider regional arms race and further destabilise the Middle East.
What do you think? Would acquiring nuclear weapons force the United States and Israel to reconsider military action against Iran, or would it increase the risk of a much larger war?
