Araghchi urges Washington to break free from Israel lobby ‘shackles’
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the Israel lobby of seeking to tighten its influence over US policy toward Iran, urging Washington to “break free” from what he called its “shackles.”
Araghchi was responding to an Israel Hayom opinion piece by Mark Dubowitz, chief executive of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, which argued that Israel and the United States should deepen their military, technological, intelligence and economic integration.
“The Israel lobby is getting less shy about its grip on U.S. policy toward Iran,” Araghchi wrote on X.
Referring to Israel Hayom as “Miriam Adelson’s publication” and Dubowitz as the lobby’s “loudspeaker,” he said the proposal amounted to ensuring that “America pays a price for any slight against Israel.”
“High time for Washington to break free from these shackles,” he added.
Dubowitz’s article argues that closer integration should reach a point where imposing financial harm on Israel would also carry significant costs for Washington. The piece warns that financial pressure tools previously used by the United States against Iran could eventually be turned against Israel.
